Russia has targeted the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in a missile strike, local officials said Tuesday. Oleh Synehubov, the head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, said on Telegram that two people were killed and six were injured in the strike. "The occupiers hit the city of Kharkiv with two anti-aircraft guns [anti-aircraft guided missiles], the hits to the ground were recorded in the Kyiv district. In one of the residential buildings, the facade and glazing of the windows of the building were damaged," Synehubov said. It's widely believed that Russian forces are aiming to recapture the city of Kharkiv in their forthcoming summer offensive.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said one drone had hit a residence and started a fire. Kharkiv Region Governor Oleh Synehubov said there had been a number of strikes in the city and civil infrastructure had been damaged. At least six drones had been deployed in the region, he wrote on Telegram.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A complex Russian missile attack targeted Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv on Tuesday morning, killing at least three people, wounding several others and damaging residential buildings, officials said. Meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Tusk said they had reached “an understanding” to resolve through talks any differences between their countries over grain shipments and trucking. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and France’s new foreign minister also traveled to Kyiv in the new year. Kyiv was the first foreign capital he visited since becoming prime minister again, Tusk said. The Ukrainian military, however, denied it had anything to do with the attack.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - Officials in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, said on Tuesday that drones hit populated areas of the city and one drone destroyed two floors of a college dormitory. The chief of police in Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, Volodymyr Tymoshko, said there were two night-time strikes -- one on the college and one on the city centre. The college building was empty at the time of the strike. "One of the drones destroyed two floors of a dormitory," Terekhov wrote on the Telegram messaging app. Suspilne said the half the college building was destroyed.
